One of the best ways indie authors can gain exposure and additional fans is by creating audiobooks. There are a number of people, who, because of a lack of time, eyesight, or inclination, simply don’t read. That doesn’t mean, however, that they don’t enjoy books. They simply listen to them.
“Books on tape” was once a very difficult process that only the most successful authors could manage to afford, but with digital audio and recording equipment being as easy to use as your iPhone, even the smallest publisher or indie author can easily create audio eBooks to expand their fan base.
Follow these steps to create your audio book:
- Determine if you will read the eBook yourself or hire someone to read it for you. Obviously, if you read it yourself, it will cost less than hiring a reader. Additionally, audio book lovers are always pleased to have audio books read by the author.
- Mark up your copy to help you know where to place emphasis and when to pause.
- Record your reading. Depending on the software you have, you may be able to record, edit, and create your audio book from the comfort of your own home or office.
- Choose a content aggregator who can upload your audio eBook to the appropriate providers, such as iTunes. You can also load the file on your own site for purchase alongside or in place of your eBook.
