Vampire lit has achieved fever pitch thanks to Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight series of books, and the extremely popular HBO television series, True Blood, based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of books by Charlaine Harris. Readers have a voracious appetite for vampire lit, from tweens and teens to their moms and dads.
Vampire lit can be found throughout the centuries. But writing good vampire lit means educating yourself on vampire lore. You have to know the rules. And it's true: You can bend them if you know them, but you do have to know them.
